First, corn starch resin is promising for replacing plastic packaging materials. The corn starch resin that has been successfully studied in Japan and China in recent years has broad prospects for development. This resin is made from corn and plasticized. The packaging material made from it can be disposed of by burning, biochemical decomposition, insect feeding, etc., thus eliminating the "white pollution" hazard.

According to information from the Taiwanese side, the number of plastic bags produced per ton of corn resin at present is almost the same as that produced by plastic pellets.

According to statistics from the plastics industry in Taiwan, the world produces approximately 100 million tons of plastic products each year, including 30 million tons of disposable packaging materials. Addressing the pollution caused by these materials requires a large social cost. If corn resin can successfully replace some of the packaging plastics, it is estimated that there will be a market worth US$10 billion annually.

Second, the commodity "over-packaging" is not desirable. Eliminating over-packaging will not only provide a large source of plastic packaging waste, but it will also greatly save the earth's resources. For example, under the conditions of reasonable choice of sports packaging, it is entirely possible to reduce the multilevel of sales packaging. The reuse of plastic packaging is also a way to reduce the source of packaging waste.

Third, adhere to the reuse of plastic packaging. In fact, the reuse of packaging is already an effective method for transport packaging. There is also a possibility of implementation in sales packaging, especially in the case of consumer goods that have a large sales volume and are widely available, and are likely to be packaged for reuse or refilled. For example, the foreign detergent industry is rapidly turning to concentrated products and related heavy-filling forms. Fabric softeners have been supplied in Europe and North America in the form of heavy-filled, concentrated products for many years, gaining widespread consumer acceptance.

Fourth, recycling of plastic packaging waste must take a comprehensive approach. Because not all plastic packaging wastes have the value of material recycling, especially large quantities of mixed plastic packaging wastes and packaging materials that contain toxic substances (such as medicine bottles, pesticide bags, and medical plastic waste), they should not be used as materials. Recycling methods to deal with, but rely on chemical recycling or energy recycling law.

Fifth, biodegradable plastic bags have unlimited potential for cultivation. At present, China has included degradable plastic packaging in the priority areas of development. Degradable plastic packaging has great market potential in fields such as agriculture, daily chemical, medical, and food. It is estimated that in 2000, the output of plastic packaging in China was more than 3 million tons, of which disposable plastic packaging, which was difficult to recycle, accounted for about 30%. The amount of plastic garbage generated was more than 1 million tons, and the plastic film production was over 400,000 tons. With only about 400,000 tons of authentic products and nearly 2 million tons of plastic waste generated, the prospects for degrading plastic materials are far-reaching. However, it should be pointed out that degradable plastics cannot be regarded as a panacea for solving plastic packaging wastes, and there are limitations in the application performance of the packaging, especially whether it can adapt to a variety of food packaging, and efforts must be made.
