Alcas, an Italian packaging company, has developed a natural ice cream cup made from DOW CARGILL's maize-based plastic resin NatureWorks - PLA. Last month the company exhibited their new environmental protection product series --02 series at the Italian MIG Ice Cream Expo, where 02 represents "0 consumption and 0 waste", indicating the role of natural materials in reducing environmental impact. The concept of NatureWorks is very simple. Cargill takes carbon from corn, releases it from oxygen during photosynthesis, and stores it in cereal starch by blocking the starch from entering natural plant sugars. These natural sugars are used to make plastic polylactide through simple fermentation, separation and polymerization processes. Carbon and other elements are used. So the package made by NatureWorks is 100% natural.

Alcas marketing manager Giovanni Pazzaglia said: “Using ice cream made by oneself is a happy thing, but we feel that enjoying ice cream with natural packaging is more satisfying. This is a simple matter that everyone can do.” Alcas The 02 series includes 5 sizes of ice cream cups and containers with lids, with a variety of transparent colors - orange, red, green, blue, yellow and crystal colors. Drinking cups, straws and spoons are also processed by Natureworks.
