Aiming at reproducing the wide color gamut of RGB, the 4-color printing ink is used to expand the color gamut to approach the RGB color space, thus a series of multi-color printing separation technologies were born. For example, Pantone Hexachrome, Hi-Fi Color, multi-Color.

As early as IGAS 2007, a wide-gamut four-color ink printing technology has been introduced, and its display on different materials and screens can be consistent, and far exceeds the color gamut performance of traditional four-color inks. Compared with AM, FM avoids the problems caused by the arrangement of dot angles, and the color performance is more delicate, especially the second-generation FM technology. In the thickness of the ink layer, if you need to increase the density, AM needs to continue to increase the ink layer, and FM because the dot itself is small, no ink layer accumulation will occur.

And when the thickness of the ink layer reaches a certain limit, the color of the ink begins to saturate, and the density can no longer rise. Therefore, to find the optimal concentration, you can use a spectrodensitometer to measure the LCH value during the test (L is the brightness of the color, C is the saturation of the color, and H is the hue of the color). In addition to the density value, another index we often need to refer to is the print contrast. The printing contrast can represent the printing quality and the details of the dark tone. In the actual testing process, the matters needing attention are:

1. The hue of Kaleido is different from the ordinary hue (Japan Color). Since the turbidity is removed from the ink hue, the concentration will be reduced visually. A density meter is used to thoroughly control the concentration and measure the humidity (Wet data) and dryness (Dry data) separately.
2. As the hues of yellow, red, and blue become brighter, the visual sense of density is lower than that of ordinary ink. Compared with other printing standards, high-density printing (about 1.2-1.3 times) is necessary. It is recommended to use the FM SCREEN printing method of printable film to achieve this high density printing.

Then we come to talk about Pantone Hexachrome and Hi-Fi Color separation technology.

Since the traditional four colors express the colors of the original through the superposition of different color ratios, it is easy to produce problems such as inaccurate overprinting, and the performance range is relatively narrow.
