How does fiber optic technology make data centers "light into copper"

<

Today, in addition to higher speeds, greater density, and higher reliability, data centers require more speed, greater density, and higher reliability. The capital investment and operating cost savings are also issues that users are very concerned about. Since the 1980s, optical fibers have been widely used in long-distance, high-bandwidth transmission in enterprise networks. In recent years, in order to comply with the increasingly higher requirements of data centers for network transmission performance, optical fibers have been increasingly used in data centers. "In the field of data centers, compared with the use of copper cables, optical fibers can reduce carbon dioxide emissions, reduce power consumption, save space, improve cooling, and at the same time minimize the impact on the environment." 2010DatacenterDynamics Beijing At the "Data Center Conference", Wang Jingbo, marketing director of Corning Communications (Greater China) Enterprise Network, listed the benefits of replacing copper cables with optical fibers.

Wang Jingbo said that in terms of active equipment in the data center, the use of optical fiber solutions is superior to copper cables in terms of power consumption, cooling requirements, transceiver size, and port density; all optical fiber active devices, whether they are switches or servers It is also a transceiver, whose energy consumption is significantly lower than that of copper products.

In terms of passive components, optical fiber also has obvious advantages. According to Wang Jingbo, compared with copper cables, optical fibers not only avoid heat, but also greatly reduce the space occupied, which is very beneficial to the cooling of the room. Since the data center adopts air circulation to cool the room, the smaller the volume of the wire duct, the smaller the loss of airflow. According to the data provided by Wang Jingbo, if copper cable ducts are used, the airflow loss will reach 63%; while the use of fiber optic cable ducts causes only 33% airflow loss. "Therefore, the proportion of optical fiber in the data center has increased year by year." Wang Jingbo said.

However, Wang Jingbo also admits that the current high cost of active equipment in the data center is still the main factor hindering users from choosing optical fibers. He also revealed that some large data centers have reached 70% fiber usage, and that customers with stronger strength will build all-optical data centers within a year or two.

Because the total reflection may occur at the bend of the optical cable, it will cause signal loss. For a data center with a relatively small space, the bending of the optical cable is inevitable. Corning launched ClearCurve ultra-bend-resistant optical fiber, which avoids signal loss and removes a major obstacle to the use of optical fiber in data centers.

Kangta factory got many kinds of bag bodies for custom production, you can choose the bag styles you like. The bag is very popular in the world, especially Obag  UK, obag Italy, and you can common see obag store even retail customers can buy them on obag Amazon.
