On February 16, 2016, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (the Oscar-sponsored institution) announced that the Polich Tallix art foundry from Rock Tavern in New York will exclusively manufacture its iconic Oscar Goldman from the 88th Academy Awards. . And in order to return to the roots of Oscar's art, the future Xiaojin people will first use bronze to hand-cast, and then plated 24K gold on the surface.

“With the help of 21st century technology, we were able to pay tribute to Oscar's glorious starting point.” Cheryl Boone Isaacs, President of the Academy: “The new figurine reflects the impeccable craftsmanship and the enduring nature of art.”

Using a bronze cast Oscar trophy from 1929, the craftsmen of Polich Tallix have restored all the details of George Stanley's original sculpture, and the overall size of the little gold man remains the same. As we all know, Cedric Gibbons, the artistic director of MGM Studios, designed this small statue that is well known all over the world - a knight with a sword standing on the film reel! The sculptor George Stanley from Los Angeles was fortunate enough to be the maker of this figurine. The first Oscar awards ceremony was held on May 16, 1929 at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood.

“In this project, we were fortunate enough to be commissioned to continue a great tradition.” Dick Polich, founder and CEO of Polich Tallix: “I am honored to use our artistic experience and technical expertise in the Oscar trophy.”

It is understood that Polich Tallix first scanned the 1929 figurine and a contemporary base, then printed it in 3D , and made the mold according to it, and cast it.

Thereafter, each wax image was wrapped in a ceramic outer casing and placed in a high temperature environment of 1,600 degrees Fahrenheit, during which the wax melted, leaving an empty shell. Liquid bronze with a temperature of up to 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit is then injected, cooled, and finally polished with sandpaper.

Each Oscar's portrait is plated with a permanent coating by Epner Technology using 24K gold. The bronze base surface of the figurine is treated as black-copper green and hand-polished to satin-like smoothness.

It is reported that it takes about three months to make 50 small gold people in this way.

The completed "retro" Oscar is 13.5 inches tall and weighs 8.5 pounds, basically the same as before, and the latter has been produced by Chicago-based RS Owens & Company since 1982. The college will continue to maintain a long-term relationship with RSOwens to serve the existing small gold people and to create trophies for other awards for the college.

The Polich Tallix Art Foundry was founded in 1972 by Polich, which combines advanced technology with world-class craftsmanship to create works that accurately show the artist's intentions.

The 88th Academy Awards will be held on February 28th, 2016 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood & Highland, Hollywood, and will be broadcast live in 225 countries and territories around the world.
