A brief analysis of the basic principles of color expression

<

All colors in nature are realized by light. Due to the different wavelengths of light, the colors perceived by human eyes are different. The rainbow that emerges after the rain is the most peculiar natural phenomenon. The red, yellow, green, blue and purple colors in the rainbow are the range of colors that people can feel. The appearance of seven colors in the rainbow and the transition color between each color is a typical color expression.

People often encounter examples of color expression in their daily lives, such as the color coordination in painting, the colors in the picture of nature scenes on TV sets, and the color reproduction of color printers. All of these color expressions are based on color theory. , that is, the combination of three primary colors. The trichromatic method is to determine the three basic colors (primary colors) in advance, and all other colors are formed by mixing the three basic colors in different proportions. In this way, when people manufacture various output devices, it is easier to get three basic colors, and other colors that need to be expressed can be mixed by these three colors.

In the color mixing, it can be divided into two methods: additive method and subtractive method. For example, the three basic colors of a television set are red, green and blue (RGB). When the colors are expressed, the three basic colors (color lights) of RGB are mixed to form various other colors, that is, the principle of color light addition is used. Objects with selective absorption of color light are called color objects. These objects absorb color light in white light while reflecting light in other parts, and the reflected color light stimulates human eyes to feel color. Prints belong to such color objects. . In the printing industry, pigment color reduction is used to represent the color of objects. People use the three primary colors of cyan, magenta, and yellow (CMY) pigments, and use CMY blends to express other colors. When the light hits the print, it is absorbed by the dye in red/green/blue colors and reflected in the human eye, so that people feel the complementary color/product/yellow. When three colors exist in the print, the red/green/blue light in the reflected light will be absorbed, and people will feel black. Due to the existence of other chemical components in the pigment, it cannot be very pure. In the printed matter, the black color of the three colors mixed by CMY is not pure black. Therefore, a black (K) is added to the printing ink to express it. Black print. The combination of CMYK's four pigments makes the print more powerful.

The hue of the color can be achieved using a mixture of colors, but the color saturation (color shade) is expressed using halftone dots. The printed matter is divided into small areas. Each area serves as a dot. The percentage of ink in the area is determined by the color depth of the area. When the saturation of the color is 1, the proportion of the ink is defined as 100%; when the saturation of the color is 0, the proportion of the ink is 0%. Therefore, the finer the distribution of outlets, the more natural the quality of printed matter. However, due to physical devices, existing devices cannot achieve the desired goals. Current dot-jet printers have a dot accuracy of 70 to 100 dpi (7 to 100 dots per inch). In print, the dot accuracy can reach 150-175dpi.
