The hotel interacts with the surrounding streetscape by allowing the bar and restaurant to engage with the street. Large glass screens can be opened to bring the vibrant town atmosphere into the restaurant, attracting and intriguing passersby, creating an inviting and friendly environment. The ceilings are left exposed and raw, offering flexibility for various activities—whether it's dining or providing hotel guests with a place to plug in and work at long tables. The guest room corridors presented an excellent opportunity to design a unique cityscape exclusive to the hotel. Custom-made furniture is used throughout the project. AEDAS Singapore designed this office building named the Sandcrawler, whose name was chosen by Lucasfilm animators who were about to move into the building. The nine-story building’s plan is extended and curved into a V-shape, with the core positioned near the base of the V to accommodate the site's shape and to allow the landscape to flow beneath the building. The tapering wings house offices and measure 19 meters at their extremities. On the fifth and sixth floors, there is a double-height space featuring a 100-seat cinema, which is fronted by a massive shiny black version of Darth Vader's helmet. The top floor resembles a warehouse with a high sloping ceiling adorned with pipes and the underside of a mysterious staircase. The slope mirrors the roof's inclination required by the master planning guidelines for the site. The overarching concept of this project was to revamp and modernize the original timeless design into a property that could compete effectively in the current market. Their aim was to preserve the original design and materials as much as possible, while enhancing it with new and contemporary furniture pieces.
