Hair Products Beware

Hair products, hairsprays clog your pores

Hello, beautiful people!

While we all know makeup can definitely clog your pores, it's time to think about the hair products you use every day. Whether it's a lightweight hair oil, a heavy pomade, or even a simple styling gel, these products can easily transfer to your skin at the hairline and lead to breakouts, redness, and irritation.

What many people don’t realize is that even hairspray and finishing mists—products we think are only for our hair—can end up on our faces. Modern hairsprays are highly aerosolized, meaning they spray in a fine mist that covers a wide area evenly. While this makes styling easier, it also means more product ends up on your forehead, cheeks, and neck than you might expect.

The issue is that these tiny particles often drift beyond where you’re aiming. Even if you're careful, some of that product still lands on your skin, contributing to clogged pores and acne. It's especially common if you have a lot of hair near your face or wear your hair in a way that brings it close to your skin.

To reduce the risk, try keeping your hair products 1–2 inches away from your hairline when applying. You can also cover your face with a piece of paper or a towel while spraying to prevent unwanted contact. These small habits can make a big difference over time.

Remember, your skin deserves the same care as your hair. Being mindful of what you put on your head can help keep your face clear and healthy. If you're struggling with breakouts, consider switching to non-comedogenic hair products or using a barrier cream around your hairline to protect your skin.
