It is understood that the recycling rate of the paper industry has reached 66.6%, much higher than the 2010 target. In addition, 94.3% of the paper industry's production energy comes from the cogeneration technology (CHP) that is more beneficial to the environment, and the use of bioenergy has increased to 54.4%, an increase of 1.5 percentage points over 2007.

Teresa Oresas, general manager of CEPI, said: Since we have made a commitment to energy conservation and emission reduction, we will certainly face the challenges. We benefit society through sustainable production methods.

Actions in the pulp and paper industry have not only helped the EU achieve its climate change goals, but have also raised awareness of sustainable development.

The report also pointed out that papermaking is the only industrial sector in the EU ETS that achieved emissions reductions between 2007 and 2008.

According to the European Paper Industry Federation (CEPI), European paper manufacturers have successfully reduced emissions by 42% since 1990 and have contributed to climate change control in Europe.

CEPI released its fourth sustainability report last week, which showed that despite the severe economic crisis, paper manufacturers still achieved their goals.
