Beijing 3D printing landscape flower bed welcomes guests
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japan and the World Anti-Fascist War, a momentous occasion that has inspired a grand floral display in Beijing. To honor this historic event, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Landscaping and Greening has unveiled an elaborate flower arrangement plan across Tiananmen Square and Chang’an Avenue. The designs include a “Great Wallâ€-themed wall on the north side of the Monument to the People’s Heroes, as well as three sets of 3D flower beds in Dongdan and Xidan. This is the second time since 2008 that Tiananmen Square will feature a landscape flower bed, showcasing a blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern design.
The “Great Wall†theme emphasizes the strength and majesty of China’s natural landscapes, with towering pines, vibrant flowers, and symbolic elements like white doves and Jingshi (stone lions) creating a visual representation of the nation’s grandeur. The floral arrangements also extend from Duanmen to the main gate of Tiananmen, along Chang’an Street, and into key areas such as the end door and the rest hall entrance. For the first time, the area from the end door to the gate will be decorated with flower beds, featuring two sets of containers and 20 sets of flower balls.
In addition, two sets of 3D flower beds will be placed before the National Day, with themes reflecting national unity, cultural heritage, and peaceful development. Along Chang’an Street, 200 container flowers and 25,000 square meters of floral displays will be arranged. The project, led by Beijing Urban Construction Group, includes 65 cypress trees, 350 leaf pots, and 7,000 ground flower pots around the Monument to the People’s Heroes. The “Great Wall†theme covers 3,000 square meters, using over 3,000 large plants and 700,000 small flower pots, making it one of the most extensive floral installations in recent years.
To ensure public access, the height of the main floral structures has been lowered, allowing easier viewing and photography. Flower suppliers have also implemented a dual-batch cultivation strategy to maintain the best visual effect during the extended period from August to late October. Advanced techniques such as 3D printing are being used in the design process, ensuring precision and creativity in the flower bed layouts. These efforts reflect not only the beauty of the floral art but also the dedication behind every detail, making this year’s celebration a true tribute to history and culture.
