Cargill Dow Introduces Polylactide Resin Packaging

According to a recent survey conducted by market research agencies, 59% of European consumers and 41% of US consumers have made the purchase of naturally packaged fresh food a “preferred” option. In response to this market trend, Cargill Dow introduced NatureWorksTM PLA (polylactide) packaging materials. 100% of this packaging material is derived from renewable resources such as corn for a year, suitable for a variety of packaging applications, including thermoformed rigid structures and flexible outer packaging films, made of transparent containers, anti-fog, high strength, printability High and lower cost.

Consumers believe that natural transparent packaging makes fruits and vegetables appear fresher, healthier and more convenient. This concept helps the point of sales to increase brand awareness and add value to agricultural products.

NatureWorks polylactide resins also have great potential for salads, fine foods, baked goods, dairy products, pasta products and confectionery.

Wilkinson Manufacturing plans to produce biodegradable food containers from sheets made from NatureWorks. This series of products is called NaturePLAsticTM and includes transparent containers of various sizes and shapes, each with a corresponding cap. The company believes that this type of container has a good market potential, including the retail market and food service market.
