Garlic anti-cancer theory, originally from some observational studies, found that eating garlic can reduce the incidence of gastric cancer, esophageal cancer, colorectal cancer and other gastrointestinal malignancies. But many studies have some problems.

For example, some studies have included more than 5,000 high-risk patients with gastric cancer, some with garlic plus selenium and some with placebo. As a result, the risk of cancer, especially gastric cancer, was significantly lower in the garlic-treated patients after 5 years, which was significantly lower than that in the placebo group.
